whiskey is growing despite the economic crisis
suffers the economy, many people have lost your job, but Scotch Whisky defies the crisis and in particularly the United States at any rate 2009 is the Scottish Whisky exports to it in value by 13% to 418.8 million GBP grown - who would have thought.
still were the huge sales increases in Latin America (+18% 390 million GBP), where for example in Brazil equal to 44%, to 60 million pounds went upstairs. classify better
As a comparison, and these figures can, here the entire Scotch Whisky Export Market:
2008: 3056.9 million GBP
2009: 3133.4 million GBP (+3%)
Germany, with sales down 7% (from 110.7 to 103.2 million pounds) has not contributed to the positive result - just as Asia, where there was even a decline of 9% .
This is particularly remarkable, when all (including me) Asia seen as the great "new" market have. With the current huge economic growth in the countries in 2010 but it can also quickly look different, but also may have with the local producers with their own strong Whiskies played a role.
With this information, I understand very little, why did the Edrington Group last year shut down its Tamdhu distillery - where the market is booming, yet so, and especially in the Blended Scotch Whisky? Overall, I'm
quite surprised by the results, I would have expected that the sales decline overall and especially in the "old" markets due to the crisis stronger - and more than rise in Asia. But I am not a wise business and take it as is the main thing is, it will still produce good whiskey.

Slyrs - a German distillery, but how do you pronounce it?
The question of how this "Slyrs" pronounce it correctly, I imagine for quite some time and was able to finally spot clarify:
simply "streaks"
But that I would have also come to himself - after all it is indeed at the Schliersee.
the "Slyrs 3 years" I now have tried a few times, but I was able to arouse their enthusiasm for something obstlerartigen, sharp taste not so. 2015, I will determine the first 12 years of Slyrs but give another chance.
nose very fruity (almost like a fruit brandy or "new make"), hay and slightly malty
Taste: some hay and quite dry on the palate, peppery and a distinct touch of wood

Since 1999 the distillery was built from scratch produced, but now marketed exclusively as 3 years of "German whiskey.
's own drums (you do not use used bourbon barrels, or other) are then filled and stored for 12 years. From 2015 it will be the first time also be a 12 year old Slyrs.

Although I personally taste not like it (something like that, there are also some Scottish whiskeys ...), but I must salute the 1A marketing performance.
The Distillery "Tour" is perfectly set up for visitors:
On one side is the mash fermentation & distillation and in front of - the visitor walks in the middle.
The open storage is also the tasting room and "tasting" will be served on a chic Degustationsbrettchen while when trying to look down the barrel storage (that's enough right now or for the entire production - an estimated 700 barrels) - a great atmosphere!

Just in time for the first sun rays and the Whisky Fair in Limburg are this week from Scotland, two new single malts for my Whisky Chamber came bottlings :
A new Highland Park and a mild, fruity Mortlach as representatives from the Speyside.
is the Mortlach - I think - great for sunny and balmy summer evenings and the powerful Highland Park rather for a "cool" summer night: so no matter how the summer - we are ready.
Tasting notes
TWC Mortlach
19 years, from 1990 to 2010
46% vol, Sherry Butt refill
region. Speyside
color: light gold
Aroma: a sweet fruity, pear & mash (slightly acidic), malt
Taste: fruity pear (pome fruit), slightly sweet
finish: medium length with a round sweetness - it needs some air to unfold
TWC Highland Park
20 years, 1990-2010
46% vol, Sherry Butt
region. Islands
Color: Copper
Aroma: intense smoke, sweet herbs (honey) and clearly Toffee ( Fudge)
Taste: herbs, a round of sherry sweetness, fire ruin
finish: toffee and a touch of "Fire Ruin" remain very long on the palate liable
The first "Vortasting" it is this weekend with whiskey friends in Munich provide. I look forward to their impressions.

Whisky Ship Lucerne 2010 - a great experience
After many attempts, I finally geschaft to Lucerne on the Whisky ship! An ideal location as the dock directly in front of the station could have been found not to:
Get off the train just goes straight on - past a fragrant sausage stand (NO - stand firm and just do not confuse the taste buds, finally are still a few great drops are tried) - a traffic light and you're ready to go!

Get off the train just goes straight on - past a fragrant sausage stand (NO - stand firm and just do not confuse the taste buds, finally are still a few great drops are tried) - a traffic light and you're ready to go!
The exhibition is spread over three ships, which makes it very comfortable and clear. On one of the ships could be a nice choice for GlenFahrn their rare wines (many Dumpy Browns or Brown Label filling GordonMacPhail). A ship was apparently the "smoking lounge" where I'm not long left and on the third parties had various independent bottlers represented: including James McArthur Cadenhead, Spring Bank ...
was the special atmosphere of the show for me, therefore, that the whiskey town in Switzerland is very open-minded and you meet after one minute, the first whiskey friends:
