Springbank Quarter Cask - what's out there?

filling a Quarter Cask at Spring Bank
Private barrels of Spring Bank had by 2000 not too great rarity. The 50l ex-Sherry Quarter Cask, which I was allowed to try recently is, however, but still quite remarkable.

Why?

The Spring Banks, which I know so have been mostly cask strength or volume to 46%. diluted down.

This 10 year old filling was 40% vol. diluted what the color and the aroma that filled after a few seconds the room, did not diminish.

such small barrels are often even after 5 - 7 years maturity to stay, then there is a risk that the wood flavor is too dominant. Therefore I had in this case with 10 years actually expected a lot of wood flavor (too much tannin also whiskey does not necessarily pleasant), but Spring Bank with the increased dilution clearly seen to it that hold the "Wood notes" in pleasant borders. The whiskey reminiscent therefore more likely to perceive one of the older bottlings, where one believes in the glass the aroma of "Warehouse No.3.

Tasting Notes:
Springbank 2000-2010 - "Michael's Whisky"

nose
Cherry (Mon Cheri), caramel and sweet herbs - mild "Lagerhausmuffigkeit" as they are known by many whiskeys from the 70s.

Taste:
Heavy sweet sherry with a light touch of wood - it has to have the feeling a "old" Springbank on the tongue. Very roughly that it was a small Quarter Cask.

finish:
Unfortunately a bit short (but that is a tribute to the 40% volume to be.) Nice oak tones.

This Springbank for me was really a positive surprise and a sign that you may not have any preconceived ideas.
pity that this particular dram probably can not buy, since only a few boxes have been released and will probably enjoyed exclusively private.
